GUND
In 1898, Adolph Gund, a German immigrant to the USA, established a company that made plush stuffed animals.
Following in Steiff’s footsteps they were one of the first companies to produce a teddy bear.
When Adolph retired in 1925 he sold his business to a Russian immigrant who worked for him.
Since then, Gund has remained as a family business.
Gund rose to fame through some innovative ideas that came much later.
They were the first company to produce stuffed versions of cartoon characters such as Micky Mouse.
Gund also started a trend of ‘under stuffing’, which resulted in the teddies being very soft, squishy and huggable.
