Parents of multiple children, we know how it is, they get on like a house on fire one minute and they are squabbling the next! It can be so frustrating, your dream of having siblings that are the best of friends dashed at the sight of them squabbling over their favourite teddy bear…But never fear there are a few tricks we’ve learnt over the years to help siblings to get on better, a few little games, involving favourite teddies and soft toys that encourage nurturing and unity.
Teddy Bears have been proven to help with lots of different issues, in fact recently we wrote about how Bears can help children with mental health issues, especially anxiety and depression. We really believe that the right bear can help to build stronger friendships between people, especially siblings.
Playing helps children to learn, and so as parents we can help to build relationships with siblings through a few simple games:
Teddy Bear role play
Gather up all the Teddies and soft toys (even the baby comforters!) and set up a simple hospital. Get the children working together to create beds for all the toys, and create bandages out of ripped up pieces of white cloth. What’s great about this game is that it teaches children about empathy, which in turn will aid in making them more empathetic to one another. Help the children to make up a few funny injuries (Elephant soft toy trapped his trunk in a door, for example!) laughter always helps to keep the mood light.
Teddy Bear story time
This is a great one for helping older siblings to feel needed. There is nothing worse than feeling a little pushed out, getting all cosy and encouraging an older sibling to read with a younger one can help them to feel like they are an important cog in the family unit. Teddy (or their favourite soft toy) can help to tell the story, with you as a parent, getting involved with a few funny voices!
Teddy Bear friendship
The thing about Teddies is that they can help so many children to work out how they’re feeling. They are none judgmental, there for support and through a little clever parenting you can use Teddy Bears to build friendships between multiple children. A little storytelling, a sprinkle of magic and the brotherly/sisterly love can be repaired.
We hope this helps a little in throwing some sibling love your way, especially with the Christmas holidays approaching. Let us know on our socials if you use any of our ideas.
Now, don’t forget it’s not long until Christmas now and if you are on the search for the perfect Christmas gift for a child, or Christmas present ideas for your girlfriend or boyfriend, or maybe even a gift for a new baby then we have lots to choose from. Have a little peruse of our voice recording bears or microwave teddies and not forgetting our personalised teddy bears all of which make a perfect Christmas gift.
