This article is all about the History of Me to You Bears.
Also known as Tatty teddy, this character teddy was created in 1995 by Carte Blanch Greetings. The first bears were designed for greetings cards and the first generation of Tatty soft toys was produced in 2000.
This cute little teddy bear had short grey fur, small black eyes, an off-white snout and a blue nose. They were made to look old and worn which how the name ‘Tatty Teddy’ evolved.
The story of the grey bear was also published, describing how the teddy bear came to be in its current state. Over the years he has changed slightly and now has longer fur in various shades of grey and a blue plastic nose, rather than the fabric nose
The bears come in many different sizes and often come with accessories such as hearts, roses, T-shirts, wooly hats and scarves. Some have personalised messages such as “I Love You” and ‘Happy Birthday‘ .
Here at Bears4u it possible for customers to personalise their bears. Firstly select your bear , ranging from a small to an extra large tatty teddy. Then add your clothing option and colour. The bears are as popular today as they were 20 years ago when they first appeared. They have become collectible similar to Charlie Bears and Steiff Bears. There are even annual Tatty Teddy national collectors events.
Several special edition and limited edition bears have also been produced, enhancing the collectible nature of the toys, which see the bear dressed in different costumes.
Many of the collectible Me to You teddies have appeared in a variety of different costumes. There have been Scottish bears and Beef Eater Bears, Wedding Teddy Bears and Bridesmaid bears, Graduation Teddy Bears and even a a whole brand of the soft toy especially for babies called Tiny Tatt Teddy. Perhaps some of the most popular designs have been the bears dressed up as animals. These have included unicorns, dogs, cats, monkeys, elephants, seals … in fact almost any cute animal that you care to think of has probably made an appearance as one of our blue nosed companions.
Over the years Carte Blanche have also produced a huge range of bear related gifts to compliment our plush friend. The cute blue nosed bear has made an appearance on mugs, mats, pyjamas, towels, pencil cases, crayons, pens, plates, cups and bowls.
