5 ideas for imaginative play with a Teddy
In this world of technology it can be easy to overlook the joy that can be taken from creative play with simple toys. It can be very tempting to sit a child down at a screen, that will provide the entertainment for them.
Whilst we fully recognise and appreciate the value of technology in a child’s development it can sometimes be fun to spend a few hours just playing and allowing your child’s mind to have fun.
We’ve put together a few imaginative play ideas that can be had with your little ones and their teddy bear friends.
Teddy bears tea party
Get out the cups and saucers, plate up a few biscuits, set out a blanket and arrange all the teddies and soft toys in a circle. Picnics are a great way for children to learn taking turns and saying please and thank you. You could pretend it’s one of the toys birthday and sing together or you could be magical fairy unicorns who only drink stardust tea. You get the picture.
Super hero ted
It’s time to don a tea towel cape and have some fun playing at being a super hero, get teddy involved by being the ‘damsel (or dude!) in distress who needs saving. Watch as your child swoops in to save the day. Let your little one lead the story, maybe their teddy needs saving from a giant rampaging marshmallow, maybe it’s a dinosaur. You’ll be astounded where the imagination will take them!
Doctors and nurses
Got a few old shoe boxes? Set up some little beds with blankets and encourage the nurturing side of your child with a teddy hospital. Little bandages can easily be conjured up with toilet roll (now that we’ve no longer got a shortage in the supermarket!). For older children encourage them to write ‘doctors notes’ and any wild and wonderful ailment is welcome!
Story time with ted
You don’t always need a book to produce a great story. Just you, your child and their favourite soft toy will do. Have some quiet time together, start the story off and see where your child takes you. Ted can talk, ted can walk, ted can do somersaults if you want. The possibilities are endless.
Treasure hunt ted
Get inventive or keep it simple, children love hide and seek and treasure hunts. You could be pirates looking for treasure, fairies trying to find pixie dust or even a robot off to find the missing piece for a time machine. Design a map, pop some clues out and let your child do the rest. Get teddy involved as a faithful side kick or even as the prize itself!
At Bears4U HQ we really believe that childhood is something to be treasured and imaginative play is a skill that should be encouraged in your child. Playing allows children to use their creativity while developing their imagination, dexterity, and physical, cognitive, and emotional strength. Play is also important to healthy brain development and it is through play that children at a very early age engage and interact in the world around them.
