For years teddy bears have featured in story books. From the 19th century fairy tale ‘Goldilocks and the 3 Bears’ to the modern day ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’, there are many stories about these much-loved creatures.
There is something very special about bears, as we well know at Bears4u. What better thing could there be than to snuggle up with your little ones, with their favourite teddies, and read a bear story together.
We asked all the teddy bears and other cuddly toys in our orphanage what their favourite bear stories are and have put together a list of our favourites. Some you may even member from your own childhood.
- We’re Going on a Bear Hunt by Michael Rosen
This lovely story came in as one of the favourites with our younger teddies. A rhyming chant that gets little ones involved. The family and their dog set off on a bear hunt, overcoming many obstacles before arriving at the bear’s cave. The shock of seeing the big brown grizzly bear forces them to make a hasty retreat to the safety of their own home. A fun, award winning story that has a tv adaptation, a West End theatre show and its very own special edition We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’ soft toy.
- Winnie the Pooh by AA Milne
A classic favourite bear story with all ages. With Winnie the Pooh teddy bear being a prominent resident at Bears4u this story has to feature high on our list.
Based on a real-life teddy bear, belonging to Christopher Robin (son of the author) these enchanting stories have stood the test of time. Winnie the Pooh has many adventures with his friends Piglet, Tigger and Eeyore, Owl and Kanga. The stories are read and loved all over the world.
Here at Bears4u we are delighted to have Winnie the Pooh teddies available to adopt. What could be better than cuddling a personalised Winnie the Pooh teddy whilst reading your favourite edition of these delightful stories?
- Where’s My Teddy Bear by Jez Alborough
A fun story about a little boy called Eddie, who loses his teddy bear and goes off to the woods to find him. To his surprise his cute and cuddly teddy bear has grown too big to cuddle. A popular story with little ones.
- Peace at Last by Jill Murphy
A lovely story about Mr Bear who could not sleep because of all the noise. Mrs Bear snoring, a clock ticking and an owl hooting. A delightful all-time favourite teddy bear story with both children and adults. Our little bears love to read this one over and over again!
- A Bear Called Paddington
Well, it wouldn’t be right if Paddington Bear didn’t feature in our list. Written in 1958 by Michael Bond about a bear from Peru. This wonderful marmalade loving bear with a blue duffle coat and bashed red felt hat has become famous all over the world. Since the original story there have been many more about the adventures of Paddington and it is hard to pick a favourite.
We are delighted to have Paddington Bear as one of the bears in our Orphanage. You can even have him personalised with a name or message embroidered on his duffle coat! For babies we now have an adorably cute Paddington comfort blanket, perfect for snuggling up with at bedtime.
- The Big Hungry Bear by Don Wood
This teddy bear story is popular with all ages. The little mouse is worried that the big bear is going to steal his freshly picked strawberry and goes to great lengths to keep it safe. An enchanting story with wonderful, colourful illustrations.
- The Very Cranky Bear by Nick Bland
Moose, lion zebra and sheep disturb a sleeping bear when they shelter from the rain in his cave. Children love this funny story of how the four friends try to cheer the cranky bear up.
